Sticky Note Fun With Livvy

Most of the time I tolerate Livvy’s antics pretty well. She has this very bad habit of climbing up on my desk and planting her big Siamese butt in front of my monitor. She then presses her wet nose on the screen– or even licks it!– so the monitor is speckled with slimy cat snot. *gag* Before I moved my keyboard into a keyboard desk tray, she’d lounge on the keyboard, too. If I was frittering away my time on the computer, that’d be one thing. But I work from home! I have scads of articles to write, and all she wants is ATTENTION! Who does she think she is, Cleopatra??

Well, I had a little fun with Livvy yesterday. Yeah, I was a bit stir-crazy. Looks like it was contagious.

She can be such a pain sometimes, but isn’t she adorable?!

More Interesting Mailboxes

Not everyone can have a Bobi mailbox, you know. Bobi mailboxes are very cool— very sleek, classy boxes that can be hung on the side of the wall, or inserted into the ground as a stand-up box. They are best for urban areas (they’d get blown over or smothered with snow from our monster Upstate New York snowplows), but they are very classy contemporary mailboxes that are as functional as they are pretty.

But.. it’s pretty obvious that not everyone can have a classy mailbox. Since my husband is a part-time rural carrier for the post office, we are more sensitive than most to mailboxes. And some of the styles and sizes of mailboxes are… well, not so hot. Here are some of the wackiest mailboxes I have found on the Internet.

Don’t know what to do with your yard junk? Heck, weld it all together and throw it up front for the mailman to wrangle with!

I wonder why these folks can’t afford to get a nice mailbox…

:-p Bad taste. Most mailmen would cringe to use this one, but I dare say I know a few who probably wouldn’t mind…

In other news: we’ve been wildly busy. I’ll have an update soon. We’re trying to complete the walls so that we can install cabinets on Sunday. It’s a very ambitious goal, I’m not sure we’ll make it! More to come…

I love to look at remuddling projects. I like to see how ~~insane~~ ingenious and inventive people can be. Plus, it gives me great satisfaction that my rickety old 1855 house isn’t half as bad. Even though we have no electricity for half the house and leaky plumbing and pockmarks and holes in the plaster deserving of some serious best acne treatment or something….

WAHM Needs Vacation

Yeehaw. And I thought I was busy BEFORE I started working full-time.

Just in case you didn’t know, WAHM means “Work at Home Mom.” That’s me. Besides pro-blogging, I’ve also got a freelancing gig that keeps me hopping. Not to mention the laundry that goes on to ad infinitum, the dishes, the cooking, oh yeah HOUSECLEANING, the kids’ education, all these consumer reviews I have to do.. and spring planting… and OH YEAH I have a kitchen to gut and renovate in a few months! Gotta plan that, make a Home Depot shopping list for comparing cabinets and Franke sinks and all that… whew! I’m so busy I could drop!

WHAT is a WAHM to do?!

Well, fooling around with the cat, Paint Shop Pro, and blogging is always fun! Here’s what my work station looks like right now… I cringe to see it!

I think I need a vacation… lol. It’s a good thing I just love what I do– I really wouldn’t have it any other way. Because it keeps me going. But I sure would like to spend just a week or two in the Bahamas right about now… Heck, I’d be happy to see Ohio….

One O’ Dem Dere Days…

You know it’s going to be “one of those days” when you’re on the phone, making a VERY IMPORTANT phone call looking for employment, and the cat decides to choose THIS moment and THIS room to hack up her hairball. Yep.

So I’m on the phone, exchanging pleasantries with the secretary, and Livvy saunters in. Suddenly and without warning, she starts that HORRID retching sound. I’m trying to remain cool on the phone, but am franctically signalling for my son to GET THAT CAT OUTTA THE ROOM. His eyes grow big as he realizes what’s going on, then starts calling loudly, “Livvy! LIVVY! You got a hairball? Come here!! Come on!”

I finish the call and hang up the phone (seems that the only jobs available around here are sales and franchise) and all is quiet. Preoccupied, I call the next telephone number in my list. Lo and behold, the cat walks back into the room and STARTS UP again! GAH!

And I don’t know if it is the bizarreness (is that a word?) of the moment, but my cockatiel then starts a huge commotion, squeaking and clacking in his cage…. ????

I’m doomed to be unemployed… the animals are against me….

On a sidenote, at the beginning of a new presidential term, I always wonder how cartoonists will characterize the new presidents. I thought GW Bush’s characterizations were extremely funny when they came out. Obama’s look is a bit too bland, me thinks. I couldn’t tell who this was until I saw the purple lips and tilted up head.
