We haven’t had hardly ANY snow this year, but the snowplows have gone wild! There are three road signs along the front of my property, and two of them are fallen on the curb, the victims of the maniac snowplow driver.
One of them (a “No Parking” sign) is horribly mangled, as if the snowplow dude ran over it back and forth with sadistic glee.
I hope the town gets the sign repaired before spring, or we’ll be inundated with parked cars all summer. Then again, we usually ARE, because the drivers practically ignore the sign, anyway.
My husband is a mailman, and he’s had his share of reaching for mangled mailboxes. People seem to like those new-fangled Rubbermaid plastic mailboxes, but I think they look like those Little Tykes toys… and I doubt they’d survive the Sadistic Snowplow Driver!
How about this sweet baby? CAST ALUMINUM! Now that’s what I’m talking ’bout! He hits that, and he’ll hear a “DING” all right! It’s a pretty penny– over $100 at Buy.com. May want to wait for it to go on sale, though. Knowing Buy.com, it wouldn’t take long… they are such a cool store! I always check them first before any other retailer now. Their deals are so sweet!
So what do you think? Do you think it would stand up to The Snowplow? Or at least make him think twice before slamming into it?

Every time we hear a thud we run to look out the front window to see if someone hit our mailbox. Over and over it happens. Ugh.

here’s a suggestion that worked for me when I lived in a rural area and had mailbox issues. put concrete in the hole where you plan to mount the mailbox. put concrete cinderblocks ontop of the hole after the concrete has been poured as a reinforcement to the pole holding the mailbox. sink your mailbox pole into the center of the brick housing making it more like a column instead of a pole. mount the mailbox ontop of the pole after it’s totally dry. mount it with metal spikes sticking out of the concrete; by drilling holes and placing the spikes on the side facing the road. that made folks avoid that box totally. only the mail carrier used it – carefully. btw, its still standing and the neighbors all talked smack about it; until they continued to replace theirs year after year. mine is still there with the present owners.
if he hits that, he will tear up the plow and everybody will know how stupid he really is.
also, my sister uses old tires around hers and it’s made of some kind of rubbermaid material. she did it after hers got knocked down by the who knows who’s. as we call them. it works better because no body wants to drive into a huge pile of tires, with concrete in the middle. it’s lethal to a car.

Every time we have gotten a new mailbox, someone feels the need to smash it *accidentally*. A few years ago after getting a new mailbox, a few kids were driving down the road, throwing darts out of the car at the mailbox, and then driving back to pick them up! No kidding! It seems that we need to replace our mailbox every few years.

I never knew there were so many mailbox issues. I bet we could create a website just dedicated to mailboxes. I lost mine to a drunk driver. Had to put a new one up.
