When I wired the electric for the living room, I put a little wall light on the far side of the wall, one on the right and one on the left. The fixtures themselves are the really cheapo kind-- once my budget grows, I'll probably upgrade them to something nicer. But the sconces are marvelous in the evenings when you want a soft light.
