Just a quick notes about some of the blog ads that appear in my sidebars: I cannot control the content of the other blogs. For the most part, I am able to carefully choose the ad widgets and other blog advertisers’ links in the sidebars. I always check them to make sure they are “family-friendly.” But a blog may appear family-friendly for me one day, and then a week later have a bunch of raunchy posts with images. Such a case happened recently. I apologize if any of you were shocked by any content if you clicked the ads. Just for the record, my kids read my blogs, and I always advise them never to click on any ads without my permission, and never to “surf” blogs without my presence with them. I always check and monitor the content first.
An ad community I’m a member of, Entrecard, has recently announced that they will be placing their own pre-approved advertiser’s widgets on our blogs. This is a bone of bitter contention amongst us in the blogging community, who feel that Entrecard has no right to insert ads into our blogs without our approval. I am thinking of either dumping EC or placing the widget at the bottom of my blog. Things are still developing it seems, so I’m hoping things will work out as they always have with EC.
Anyway, I’m letting you know that, while I am careful to monitor all my ads and the sites they point back to, sometimes the sites turn, and post things I greatly disapprove. I will deny these ads any “air time” on my blog. If you come across an inappropriate site, please drop me an email, leave a comment, or use the Contact Me form to contact me personally. This is a godly, family-friendly blog and I want to keep it this way! Thanks for your support.

They’re not letting us deny certain paid ads, are they? Isn’t it all or nothing? You either pay the $50/yr for no ads, or you allow all paid ads to run? BTW, it’s funny they haven’t started this yet. Wonder if they’ll come back with yet another plan.

Kathy, I’ve already seen a few ads– they are for Entrecard itself. I believe it is the “all or nothing.” Either pay EC $50 a year PER blog, or have unapproved ads.
My post was referring to the EC non-paid ads I had previously approved as well as a few of the other advertising networks in my sidebar.

Mrs. Mecomber, I agree with you as far as Entrecard is concerned. I want to be able to control the ads that are running on my site. I always visit a blog that wants to advertise on my site before I accept it. I have rejected a lot of ads in the year or so I have been using Entrecard because I didn’t think they were appropriate and I didn’t want to offend any of my readers who happened to click on it.
I have discovered a lot of nice blogs through Entrecard. Thank you.
