I forgot to post about this earlier in the summer, when the bugs were proficient. Still, bugs are bugs and they are a nuisance. While surfing blogs and finding loads everything from DIY maple syrup making to whatever, I found a really nifty DIY fly trap. It’s at a neat DIY blog, ecobites. This would probably make a terrific home craft project for the kids. And I am all for repelling/zapping pests without the use of chemicals, pesticides, and those horribly sticky fly-ribbons.

See the site for detailed instructions. Very cool!

:) I’m a married mom of four teenage children. We live in Upstate New York. We bought an old 1855 home and acre property, over 10 years ago. We've been in the slow, agonizing process of living in the home while (trying) to renovate it. When I'm not renovating, I'm a freelance writer and blogger.
We've learned to dig a French drain, plant huge flower and vegetable gardens, wire a circuit panel, install furnace ducting, understand the enigmatic complexities of the plumbing system, and more. It's been *quite* the adventure.

We tried this last year and it worked great. We still had a few flies that annoyed us,but nothing like what we normally have.
