How To Toilet Train Your Cat
Posted on 03. Oct, 2008 by Mrs. Mecomber in blogging
I’d recently blogged about finding a tutorial about how to toilet train your cat. We have a new kitten, and I hate the smell of cat litter. I want to train her while she’s young. I think I found a great video that shows me how to train her! Hey, cat owners, check this out!
Hmmm… the toilet is a bit high for my kitten yet. Even if propped up in phone books, I can envision Livvy clumsily teetering off the the litter pan into the water below. She’s so small yet, I fear she’d go down the drain! I’l have to wait til she’s a bit bigger. Stay tuned for all the gory details…

Ah, a cheapie, home-version of the system i used in the early ’80’s. Go to the pet store and buy the plastic toilet-shaped litter holder with the pre-cut lines. You start with it totally covering the opening (it goes on the rim under the seat) and then start cutting progressively larger and larger holes in it so that they get used to hearing the sound of their waste landing the toilet water & not freaking out. This guy’s method won’t work because it is missing that critical step.
You also have to clean the floor where the litter box used to be because the cat will sniff out the remaining odor & use the floor where the box was formerly placed. You can use special cleaners from the pet store or just ammonia.
It’s interesting that this guy’s cat does just what mine used to do, i.e., scratching the toilet seat as though there were kitty litter there. The instinct to bury the waste is strong!
I had 2 cats who used the toilet until the day they died. People wouldn’t believe it until they saw them. It was a great party conversation-starter!

Since he is young Pumuckl jumps up the toilet to watch the water flowing. I have tried several times to get him used to use our toilet instead of the litter box but this never worked out although he knows what this bowl is for. But I heard Litter Kwitter would help.

I have often wondered how this is done. Strange thought that placing litter box on toilet could cause confusion with my little one to start using litter box rather than potty.

Hi.
I didn´t know cats could actually go to our toilet so this was quite hilarius for me. I had a few cats, one of them woudn´t do anything at home. He was so used to do outside that I stopped buying litter.
Anyway, I´m thinking about having another cat and this was a good lesson. Cheers.
