It is so hot and humid here, that when you expel your breath, flames come out. COME ON, this is Upstate New York! We’re supposed to be the Frozen Chosen!!! I just hate the heat and humidity. Pardon me while I whine, lol.
So we can just barely get the wash hung out on the clothesline until we collapse in the shade, soaked and grumpy. Someone please tell me how folks in the South do it? How do you survive down there, where it’s like this all the time?!?! I’d really like to know. Cuz I had all these plans for the week… but everything has dissolved into a steamy little pool of perspiration. I have no motivation whatsoever. i was going to fix my electric wiring in the kitchen (I have to tuck the dangling wires in a junction box) but I can’t even motivate myself to shut off the power and get out the ladder. Sighhhh.

I HATE winter. I love the summer. The sun is shining, ice cream is a nice treat, you can swim, and do all sorts of things outdoors.
I guess it is my upbringing. However, stay up there in the winter, you don’t want to be around a bunch of Southerners driving if there is a trace of snow on the ground.

After a few years in Florida you just get used to it. Of course without a freezing winter, the change to Summer isn’t as drastic. That and things do tend to move a little slower here, probably because it’s so hot.

I am moving to the Midwest and am totally freaked out by the humidity. This post just reinforced my fears.

I could live without the humidity, but I much prefer summer over winter. To me, being cold is painful. I’d much rather be hot. I hate bundling up in a bunch of clothes. Give me a tank top and shorts!

Our blood is thinner than a northern person’s.

Oh it is so easy!:D Not really we are a tough breed of humans I tell ya. The secret to surviving summer of 100 and above (every year since I was born) is Air conditioning when you can and Sweet iced Tea.
There are no other substitutions that work, I have tried. A cold clothe to the back of your neck helps but put me in a cold pool of water with some Sweet Tea and I am a happy camper.
When the A/C is out we hang out at the grocery store in the freezer section. I have come to notice banks keep their cash cold, so I go there too. Errands in the morning, lazy in the afternoon and Grill Dinner. Never heat the oven during July or August if you can help it.
Nah Ms. M I got me some sweet tea I am happy as a lark! My nephew is up by Albany I bet he is loving it!

I can’t comment much but over here it’s not as bad coz we are so used to it…all year round hot and humid with the rain. Now with the added problem of open burning…we have the haze season as well but thankfully, no haze this year!

Down here in Texas “ya just get use to it”. However, I will say that I DO NOT LIKE HOT WEATHER AT ALL. I much prefer cold. Actually I looooooooooooooove cold weather. When it gets really cold, I love to put on the coats, sweaters etc. My opinion is that I can always but on lots of clothes to get warm but never take off enough to get cool. And I’m not a tea drinker like most Southerners are. I know…you’re not a Southerner unless you have a glass of “sweet tea” in your hands all summer!

We lived for 2 years in Germany…no A/C, but we survived ok. After that, we lived for 8 years in Iowa. Ugh! We had A/C in window units, but it was barely enough. We lived for 4 years in FL and when it was hot and muggy we just stayed inside. It was a long trip from the air conditioned car to inside an air conditioned store sometimes! LOL Now, we live in western WA. This year, after living here for the last 16 years, 45 total for me (I was born here) we installed a heat pump. So, when it is really, really hot, we have A/C, but very seldom need it. So, move your 1855 house across country to western WA! LOL

Funny you post this. I was talking to a friend of mine just two days ago who lives in Albany, NY. She was telling me about it being so hot and humid up there.
It gets nasty hot here in GA mostly every day. So hot I get sick almost every day trying to work in the garage. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it. I’m ready to move to Maine or higher north.

Here’s how it is in the South: we have air conditioning. We don’t go outside in the heat of the day. I grew up in upstate NY without a/c and rarely longed for it. But now when I go back for vacations, I feel terribly lethargic in the heat of the day, even in NY! My parents still don’t have a/c.

Mint juleps and good ol’ fashioned air conditioning. I live in Houston. Yesterday it was 102 at 4:30 in the afternoon. Barring the air conditioning, mint juleps, a ceiling fan and a nap. Barring the nap and/or the ceiling fan. A bucket of water over the head (make sure you’ve finished the julep first).
