This is my dream. Wow. When I saw this site, I flipped. I AM going to do this, someday, you know. I’ve joked about with my husband, but I mean business. When the kids are older and we have the time, hubs and I are going on one of those amazing motorcycle adventures.
I just found out that Eagle Rider rents motorcycles! It is the COOLEST thing I have ever seen! I used to ride on motorcycles iwth my step-dad when I was a little girl. He had these beefy Yamaha (he always wanted a Harley, but couldn’t afford one– this was before you could rent them at places like Eagle Rider) bikes, and boy– riding a hog was such a blast for a 10-year old gal. I vowed that I would get one, one day.
Well, I still don’t have one, but I found out that I don’t NEED to buy one. At Eagle Rider, you can RENT one– even one-way rentals! It is my dream to bike across the U.S. continent. Wow. Looking at these bikes is a thrill. They are gorgeous machines. I want to go now, lol!
Eagle Rider also has ATVs, snowmobiles, watercraft, scooters, and more, too. But the bikes are the beauts, lol! You’ve gotta see their selection! They also sell them. Eagle Rider has a huge selection of bikes and other machines, with locations all around the world. With gas prices the way they are today (with no prospect of them changing any time soon), the motorbike vacation is looking better and better. Eagle Rider was established in 1992. They sell used bikes, too– call 888-814-3399 for more information, or visit their website at EagleRider.com.

This would really come in handy when that $7 gasoline hits next year.
A friend was bragging to us about his gas mileage of 50 MPH and how, even with his motorcycle, hypermiling to get even better gas mileage.

I have been looking at them too!!! As a Handyguy I of course own a pickup truck and an Suburban. My full size, V8, American made pickup truck is my economy vehicle! I did the math - If I can replace 30% of my driving of my pickup, over the course of a year, average 50mpg on a bike, and average 15MPG in the truck, drive about 12K miles per year, and the bike costs me an additional $100 a month (payment, insurance, maintenance) I break even when gas is at $3.95 a gallon. I save money when its over $3.95.
I have a little issue with another state I need to get resolved before I can get my permit, take the safety class and get my license. It may take a couple of months to go through that process. By then it will be end of summer and prices may be cheaper for bikes. I saw a used Harley Sportster 883 with 1200 miles for $5100 that supposedly gets 50+MPG. How cool would that be!

All…I’m catching up on my comment replies. This is in response to the comment you left on Almost Wordless Wednesday: Norway Maple Trees.
Mrs. Mecomber–Thank you very much. Aww, shucks. You know what they say about a boy and his tree–without one a boy and his dog don’t have anything to use to relieve themselves on….Once again, “they” said it. I don’t know who “they” are.
Amy–Yeah, at a Jewish philosophy study session not too many years ago, we were all sitting at the table with the rabbi discussing I-thou relationships, and I kind of mentioned the tree. Suddenly it became very quiet and everyone just stared at me. I said “What?” completely innocently. “A tree is one of God’s creations, right? It needs to be cared for too.” One of my friends then said: “Matt, you need help.” And I said “That’s right. No one makes it through life alone…” It got pretty interesting after that, let me tell you.
Bonnie–Thank you so much. Give your Norway about 7 or 8 years with great watering and it will soon become the most magnificent tree in your yard.
Daisy–Like I said to you before, just come on up to the Mountains of North Carolina in late October. It’s spectacular, and a doable drive. My father makes it from Venice in one day. Not bad for a man of 76.
Jnez–That’s very kind. Maples, to me, are truly amazing. “My” tree had leaves about 18 inches wide last fall. That’s one pretty darn big maple leaf, let me tell you.
Cheers!

I do have a dream to ride Harley-Davidson. Cool and macho! But this dream will never come true, I think.
