Renuzit Home Makeover Contest

Posted by: Mrs. M / Category: blogging

Bummer. I didn’t make it as a semi-finalist for the Renuzit TriScents Home Makeover Contest. :( Maybe the looks of my home and kitchen were just too scary for a G-rated remodeling job for a television program. Back to the money-raising drawing board, so to speak!

Oh well. There are ten contenders. You can see them for yourself in the semi-finalist gallery. If these contestants are anything like me, they put their hearts into their submissions. $20,000 is a huge chunk of change that can put a big dent in a home remodeling project! And there’s the benefit of getting “expert advice” by Tanya Memme, host of the show “Sell This House.” Check out the gallery and vote for your favorite. (You have to register in order to vote). Personally, I hope the second one wins– the one with the run down old house that they are transforming. And they have a pack of kids, too. Sounds a little familiar, doesn’t it? lol.

You can vote once a day until June 7th, when the final winner will be announced. The submission with the most votes by June 7th wins the loot! Second place winners will get a prize of $3,000 and third place winners will get a prize of $2,000. That’s nothing to sniff at!

I’m suprised you didn’t make the finals. (I’m finalist #5 — “A Fresh Outlook”.) My husband and I thought you’d be stiff competition.
I fear we’ll lose to the people with the kids.
What we didn’t mention in our video, is that we need the money for renovation so that we don’t have to draw from the money we’re saving up for adoption in order to make the house safe for kiddies. I only wish I was fortunate enough to be able to have kids the “easy” way!

Thank you so much for blogging this. I hope it’s ok to post this.. Here is our story on this contest..

In February the girls and I made a video for a chance to win a $20,000 home makeover. We worked really hard on it and the day after we entered the video they changed the rules.

They sent an email and asked if we wanted to make another video or just keep the one we entered into the contest.
The girls had no desire to make another one, so we just left it and I chalked it up as, “no hope of winning.”

We’ve been working on our house for the last 10 years. It still isn’t finished and the reason for entering the contest was so we could have a chance to finish this house, especially the kitchen. It’s tiny. Cooking for a family of 7 makes it tough sometimes. Anyway, The wall needs to be opened up and the cabinet doors are falling off the hinges, literally. We are not going into any more debt to work on this house, in fact the last 2 + years have been spent getting out of debt and we are still working towards that goal.

Our video is posted second on the page.
    Blessings!
    Melisa

As a I follow up- I’m sorry you didn’t make the finals too. Keep trying. Not many people take the time to enter video contest. They are lot of work, but can be worth it.

Hi Rachel and Melissa! I hope you both win. lol. Really– thanks for visiting and commenting.

Melissa, the rules changed mid-way for me, too. First it was about a kitchen and you had to convince folks why you needed a makeover. Then it became a home makeover and how Renuzit would help. I was not contacted about the change, though, which is odd; I found out later. Oh well.

I’ll keep trying the contests, any contests that I can. My house is so bad that it will be unlivable if we don’t do something! Half the electric in the house is disconnected, and now we are having major plumbing problems (again). Having an old house is a mixed blessing. You save some money by not having one built new… but you have to be very, very tolerant. Here’s hoping I can remain tolerant! LOL!

Thanks for visiting and all the best to you. Spend wisely! ;)

And Rachel, God bless you with your adoption proceedings. If I had to choose between a huge new house or kids… we’d all be living in a tent but we’d be happy as could be. :) Children are indeed a blessing and I hope you find out soon!

Thanks so much Mrs. M. I wish we could all win too!
You should check out the Sweat Equity Contest. http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/pac_ctnt_988_leader/text/0,,DIY_26336_65979,00.html
You don’t have to watch the show to find out the answer to the question. Just click on “hint” and then click on the show for the day prior and then click on Final Tally! Good luck!

[…] nursing my wounds after finding out that my submission into the Renuzit Home Makeover contest didn’t make the semi-finalist list. […]

  12. Rachel K Says:

Freaky Frugalite: which one was yours? I can’t figure out what criteria they used to make the selection!

  13. Phil Says:

Wow–even though your video wasn’t a finalist, you’ve drawn 3 out of the 10 TriScents finalists to post on your blog. Ours is the “multiple makeover” one with the diaper pail icon (it’s 9th out of the 10).

all I can say is that the judges were asleep at the wheel when they didn’t make your video a finalist. Even though it was unclear exactly what they wanted you to express in the video, I thought that yours was hands-down well-done and showed the need (which was supposed to be half of the judging criteria).

Don’t despair–there will be other makeover contests out there, and with your creativity and faith, I have a feeling that you’ll be winning more than one.

Thanks for referring people to vote anyway.

    In Christ,
    The Roberts Family
