… so gardeners could get the housework done.
Ever heard that quote?
We’ve had a few sunny days, so my house is dirty, lol. But my gardens are growing. We’ve had frost warnings the past few days despite the daytime sunshine. Can you believe it?! Two days until June and we have FROST warnings! Argh! Temperatures are 20-25 degrees below normal for this time of year. :-p
Well, I’m tired of the frost warnings. I put out my seedlings that have been hardening off for… oh, only five weeks now! I planted them. Here they are:
Hmmmm. Maybe you can’t see them. They are those tiny little green specks in the vast brown, mulchy space. You can click on the photos for a larger view.
I enlarged this round bed. You can probably tell, because the more mature plants are a little crowded in the center there. I didn’t attend to the gardens very much last year. I was off my feet for six weeks about this time last year, and then the kids and I gutted and renovated our living room. It took us three months. It’s still not quite done.
I love gardening. I always say that I renovate because I have to, but I garden because I love to. It is instant satisfaction, you don’t have to “measure twice, cut once,” it’s inexpensive, and there is something so satisfying about watching something grow that you’ve planted.
This week, I also weeded the bed on the side of the vegetable garden and mulched it.
My Adirondack Red potatoes are doing beautifully. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into them.
The weed growth around here is phenomenal. I highly suspect there is a weed conspiracy against me. I sometimes hear a rustling in the back… when I look in that direction, all the weeds suddenly straighten up, as if they had been whispering their latest attack against me. They multiply worse than rabbits, even. Little devils.
So that’s what I’ve been up to right now. I have other yard projects going on and did take some pictures’ I’ll have those up later. I love spring/summer!

I’m impressed!!!!And I do see the tiny green specks…well sorta..lol
It’s interesting that you said you and your kids gutted the living room and renovated it last year. That reminds me of about 4 years ago when I tiled my bathroom, kitchen and dining room. I did most of it by myself. And the best part…I ripped up about a 3 ft square section of carpet near my front door and tiled it. I had never tiled before and I was very nervous but I did my research, measuring and planning in advance and had it all ready. I did a darn good job…I think. Well that wasn’t good enough. The next summer I painted all the wood siding on my house. My house is almost all brick but there is some wood in the back, on the chimney and all the trim. It took me about 3 months to do it but it was so empowering and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

Ellen, I agree– there is a real sense of satisfaction that comes from DIY projects. Plus, look at all the money you’ve saved!!!
Canine Kids– wow! Thanks for saying that! I am truly honored by your kind words and your readership. Thank you so much.

That little garden circle is lovely! My garden is all weeds. The woman who owned the house before us loved to garden, but was not very careful about what she planted, and where. I’m still getting up all the mint that had been growing around the roses and the cosmos too. Some day I hope to have a garden I can be proud of, but till then, I just keep attacking those weeds!

I got my seedlings (most of them) in the ground this week too, now, if the rabbits will leave them alone!

Wow! Your gardens are beautiful. Makes me jealous. I’d like to have gardens like that, but I think I’d have to find a new husband.
