I visited my vet the other day (for my DOG!!) and at the receptionist’s desk they had some little bookmarks printed up for the taking. The one I spotted was for removing skunk smell, so I nabbed that right away! I have a dog and two cats, so you can imagine what fun we have around here! I live near a convenience store and people are always dumping their litter. There’s a family of skunks that has taken up residence, across the street. I’ve noticed that skunks are particularly active at the onset of spring, so this bookmark comes in a very timely fashion.
It’s a recipe for removing that worst of all smells. I thought I’d share it with you, since I’m real handy like that.
Removing Skunk Smell
A West Virginia road-kill skunk was dunked into a five-gallon bucket with the following formula, bringing out comments like, “It worked like magic,” and “Almost immediately the odor was gone.” The West Virginia Board of Animal Health Newsletter cautions to keep the formula away from pets’ eyes, nose, etc.
Krebaum’s Formula (for pets):
1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
1 teaspoon liquid soapFollow with a thorough tap-water rinse.
We haven’t tried it yet, but I expect we will in the near future. If you beat me to it, feel free to leave a comment about its efficacy, lol.
